Join our educational workshops at Westside of the World Literacy to gain valuable insights and skills to develop successful, sustainable family literacy practices. We offer a variety of topics aimed at both students and parents, covering study strategies, time management, and exam preparation. These sessions provide practical tools to enhance learning experiences and foster academic growth.
Westside of the World Literacy is currently partnered with St. Mary's University, in San Antonio, Texas. College students register, complete a background check, and are trained to engage elementary students and families in numerous learning opportunities.
Our learning camps provide students with access to 1:2 teacher/student ratio.
Our tutors are trained on elementary education expectations, and compassionate teaching practices. Our volunteers bring kindness, patience and enthusiasm to every session. Mentors are available to help strengthen foundational literacy skills to ensure academic success.
We understand the importance of a student's social-emotional learning needs at home and in the classroom. Our family day camps highlight social issues, problem solving, and positive character traits. Our goal is to successfully develop social emotional learning practices through engaging, hands on, family learning activities.
Students will learn online safety, basics of cybersecurity, technology problem solving, and creation of classroom presentation. This student-led club will support students and teachers with technology storage, distribution and maintenance.
Student leaders within the organization will be nominated for the Virtual Reality Learning Team. This team and sponsors will research, test, and develop engaging learning experiences utilizing new VR equipment. Our goal is to offer class use of VR lessons by Spring 2026.
Volunteer academic coaches will prepare students for the annual UIL A+Academic competition. Students in 1st to 5th grade will practice and prepare for a variety of contests at the district event. These include, Ready Writing, Spelling, Creative Writing, Social Studies, Math, Science, Art and Music.
